To properly cut a watermelon you need a sharp knife, dry clothes, and a firm secure cutting surface. This guide will help you with basic cutting techniques for watermelon steak, spears, and cubes.

  1. Clean the melon

    Start by wiping the outer surface of the Mekong with a damp cloth. Really focus on any grooves or dents that might be packed with dirt. watermelon

  2. Cut the ends

    Place the melon on a sturdy surface like a dry towel over a cutting board. Next, cut off both end with a sharp chefs knife. This will give the melon stability when cutting off the rind. I

  3. Remove the rind

    Set the watermelon on one of the cut ends. Remove the rind by guiding the knife from the top cut down the shape of the fruit. Be sure to be firm with your strokes but don’t force the knife down. Take your time to avoid cutting too much melon. Discard the rinds.

  4. Cut the melon Into steaks

    The melon can be cut into different shape and sizes at this point. Cut the melon into steaks by slicing 2 inch cuts across the width of the melon. Melon steaks are the perfect size for grilling. 

  5. Cut the melon into spears

    Watermelon spears or sticks are excellent for dipping. Make spears by cutting the melon steaks into 1-2 inch slices.  

  6. Cut the melon into cubes

    Cubes make using the melon in recipes a breeze. Cut the spears into 1 inch pieces cutting width wise.
