a bottle of buttermilk chive dressing

Y’all, this Buttermilk Chive Dressing is one of those O-M-Goodness-have-mercy-this-is-so-flipping-good recipes! I dreamt of this recipe for the longest time before attempting it and I can tell you that it is a dream come true. The tangy buttermilk with garlic and onion and a pinch of kosher salt just dances joyfully on the tastebuds. It’s delicious on a fresh garden salad but it’s perfect for dipping veggies, especially carrots and wings.

Buttermilk chive dressing ingredients

Recipe ingredients in a bowl

Buttermilk– I use full fat but you can certainly use reduced. Recently, I tried this recipe with homemade DIY Buttermilk and it was great!
Mayo– My preferred brand is Duke’s but you can use what you like best as long as it’s not miracle whip or a very sweet mayo.
Chives
Garlic cloves
White onion– White onion finely grated will works best but yellow onion is a good substitute. I like the sharpness of the white onion in this dressing.
White vinegar– I have tried this dressing with white wine vinegar and it was too much for the recipe. One teaspoon of distilled white vinegar is just right.
Lemon juice
Fresh parsley– I roughly chop my parsley but you can mince yours for a finer texture if you’d like.
Kosher salt
White pepper

a garden salad with dressing

It is an amazing salad dressing. I like it on a quick side salad made with lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, and red onion. You can also serve this buttermilk chive dressing as a dip. Just whip up a platter of Air Fryer Old Bay Wings or Creole Butter Wings, and a mess of carrot sticks.
