Air Fryer Old Bay Wings

Old Bay Wings are a Baltimore favorite. This healthier flavorful version uses an air fryer machine for crisp tender wings with less added fat.
I’ve been known to order appetizer wings as my meal at restaurants. If Old Bay Wings are on the menu, it’s a guaranteed order. They are usually fried, dipped in butter, and coated heavily in old bay seasoning. Pure comfort food joy for sure but definitely not healthful in the slightest. This recipe is a lighter version of my favorite restaurant comfort food.
Old bay wings ingredients
Chicken wings sections
Old bay
Canola oil spray
Lemons
Salt
Peppercorns
Yellow onion
Water
Paper towels
Air fryer unit
Baking sheet
Mixing bowl
Chicken wings brine
I’ve mentioned how brining chicken wings before cooking gives them more flavor. For this recipe, I chose a wet brine of salt, black peppercorns, lemon juice, and yellow onion. The wings are soaked in the brine for at least 4 hours in a cool place until ready to cook.
How to make air fryer old bay wings
After removing the chicken from the brine, thoroughly pat the pieces dry with paper towels. Layer the dry wings on a baking sheet and lightly spray them with canola oil. Sprinkle the chicken with the old bay seasoning.
Place the wings onto the air fryer racks in a single layer. )I’m using a PowerAir Fryer Pro (affil link) but the temperature and cooking time will be the same for most air fryers.) Set the temperature to 400° for 12 minutes. After the first 12 minutes, flip the wings over and rotate the racks if applicable. Cook for another 10-12 minutes. Remove the old bay wings and serve immediately.
Alternative cooking method
You can make these wings in the oven using the same ingredients. Preheat the oven to 475°. Layer the wings on a baking sheet fitted with a wire rack and bake for 25-30 minutes. Find more detailed instructions in my post for Oven Baked Naked Wings.
