Easy Buffalo Wing Sauce —a rich and spicy dipping sauce perfect for chicken wings, pizza, dips, and so much more.

The first thing that comes to my mind when anyone mentions wings is buffalo sauce and blue cheese. One of the greatest combinations ever created. Although ranch is a close second. However, not all buffalo sauces are created equal. I loathe weak thin buffalo sauce; it should cling to the wings. In my opinion, the best buffalo sauce is thick, rich, very spicy, and a bit tangy from a dash of vinegar.

To make the best buffalo wings sauce you need a great base hot sauce, spices, butter, and a thickener.
Hot sauce– The hot sauce that you choose will determine the taste of the sauce. My favorite hot sauce is Burman’s sold by Aldi’s. It has the right amount of saltiness and heat.

Butter– Butter gives this the necessary richness required of buffalo sauce.

Vinegar– I use seasoned rice vinegar because it isn’t as potent as plain white vinegar while adding a nice tango ness to the sauce. It is optional but I never skip it.

Spices– Heat. I need the extra cayenne with a little bit of sugar to balance it out. White pepper adds to the heat as well while garlic powder gives it some extra flavor.

Thickener– I need my sauce to stick to my wings. The thickener gives the sauce some extra body to hold onto the wings.

How to make buffalo wing sauce:

spices added to butter in a saucepan

Start by melting butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the spices followed by the hot sauce and whisk until smooth.

cornstarch added to buffalo sauce

Pour in vinegar and dissolved cornstarch and whisk again. Allow the sauce to bubble for 3-4 minutes over medium-low heat. The sauce should be a little glossy and only slightly thick.

Tip: To use the sauce after refrigeration, heat the needed amount on the stovetop in a saucepan or in a safe container in the microwave. This will melt the solidified butter in the sauce and allow it to cling to the wings.
