Making homemade spices is one of my favorite things about recipe creation. I get to choose what flavors work best in a blend. The ability to use bulk spices to create multiple seasonings is a great bonus. This easy homemade Greek Seasoning uses primary pantry ingredients to create a delicious seasoning blend.

What’s in it Greek Seasoning

Kosher salt
Garlic powder
Dried onion flakes
Black pepper
Cumin
Lemon pepper
Dill
Fennel seeds

This recipe is unorthodox for many reasons but it makes a wonderful blend. A few store-bought Greek seasoning blends have dried lemon zest in the ingredient list so I’ve included lemon pepper in mine. I’ve also take a shortcut to save ingredients by using an Italian herb seasoning that contains marjoram, oregano, and thyme. The dehydrated or dried onion flakes can be replaced with onion powder by using half the amount.

I pretty much make all of my seasoning blends the same way. In a spice grinder to meld the flavors well. Store the blend in a jar with a lid in the pantry.

Greek seasoning is an excellent spice blend for Mediterranean inspired recipes. One of my favorite ways to use this seasoning blend is in salad dressing. A delicious vinaigrette style dressing that I make for an easy vegetarian Greek Pasta Salad. It’s also amazing for seasoning Chicken Gyros and Ground Lamb Tacos.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp onion dried flakes
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp lemon pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dried dill
  • 1/2 tsp fenne

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a grinder to blend. Store in an appropriate container with a lid in the pantry with like spices.
